How Our Ratings Work

📊 How Our Ratings Work – Explained Simply

At The Delicious Dog Food Company, we believe that dog food should be judged on science, not marketing. That’s why we use a locked-in, 100-point system based on biological science—the real needs of dogs, not fancy packaging or advertising tricks.

We score dog food in five key areas, each worth 20 points, making 100 points total:

▪️ Protein Quality – Dogs need high-quality protein to stay strong and healthy. We check what kind of meat is used and how much of it is real, named animal sources (like chicken, lamb, or salmon).

▪️ Essential Amino Acids – Dogs need 22 amino acids to survive, but they can only make 12 on their own. The rest must come from food. We check whether the food provides all essential amino acids in the right balance.

▪️ Carbohydrate Balance – Dogs don’t need a lot of carbs, but some are useful for energy and digestion. We check how much is included, whether it’s too much, and whether the carbs come from good sources (like sweet potato) or cheap fillers (like wheat or maize).

▪️ Biological Suitability – This means how close the food is to what dogs should actually eat based on their natural dietary needs. We check the meat content, ingredient variety, and whether it fits what a dog’s body is designed to process.

▪️ Digestibility & Nutrient Absorption – Even if a food has great ingredients, it’s useless if a dog can’t digest and absorb the nutrients properly. We look at things like cooking methods, added probiotics, and how easy the food is on a dog’s stomach.

Each food is scored fairly and consistently, with no sponsorships, no paid promotions—just science.
